A classic and cosy design, stable doors feature two separate panels that can be opened independently. You can have the bottom half closed to keep pets and children safe, while the top half is fully open to allow in fresh air.
Choose between the Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick or Penrith styles in our Cottage Composite range. Grasmere, Keswick and Penrith have windows in the top half, making them the perfect choice when you want to let in some light. Keep things cosy and traditional with a solid side panel, or choose the Keswick style and make a more modern statement for your stable door with a glazed side panel.
Customise the colour and details of your new door to perfectly match your home and style. All our styles have both solid colour and woodgrain effects available to get the look you want. Choose furniture like door knockers and escutcheons in understated black or add a touch of luxury with gold effect furniture.
Our composite stable doors combine traditional looks with modern security features, designed to keep your home safe.
The lever-operated part of the stable door lock has a latch and deadbolt, engaged by the door handle. The lower leaf incorporates a hook bolt and another deadbolt.
The key-operated lock is the multi-accredited Ultion 3-star rated cylinder lock. These have a host of features to hinder potential intruders:
- Ultion cylinder locks with double anti-snap technology.
- Lock-down mode; As soon as a forced entry is detected the central cam of the cylinder is locked down, meaning it cannot be picked.
- The cylinder has a solid molybdenum alloy core, 25% more dense than iron. This makes it nearly impossible to snap, drill or break through.
- £5000 anti-snap guarantee; if a burglary takes place within 5 years of installation, with entry gained by snapping the Ultion lock, Ultion will pay £5000.
- Ultion Cylinder is SS312 Sold Secure Diamond Accredited – the highest locksmith accreditation available.
- Secured by design accredited; the official UK Police initiative, ‘designing out’ crime through products that are designed to prevent crime by keeping out intruders.
We manufacture our composite stable doors with a range of insulating materials, keeping your home warm and comfortable.
Our Elite Composite door range features 48mm-thick panels with solid timber cores, providing a U-Value of 1.4W/m²k.
Our stable door frames are made from multi-chambered uPVC. This helps our doors retain warmth and keep colder air out. The door frame also features weatherseals on the inner frame and outer frame, helping eliminate draughts and further improving the overall thermal efficiency of the door.
We offer insurance-backed guarantees across our range. This means the guarantees remain valid until they run out, even in the unlikely event we ceased trading. Not all home improvement companies offer this. Under the terms of the guarantee, you are covered for the cost of a partial or complete repair of your doors.
- 10-year guarantee on parts and labour.
- 10-year guarantee for sealed glass units on glazed doors. This means the unit is covered in the event of a “blow-out”. You can generally tell if you see condensation between the glass.

- FENSA and Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) accredited.

get in touch with us to get an accurate quote for the cost of a new stable door.
What is the difference between a Dutch door and a stable door?
Dutch doors and stable doors are two different terms for the same design. This type of exterior door is split horizontally, featuring two separate panels that can be independently opened.
Can a stable door open out?
A stable door can open outwards if desired, but it would depend on the specific design and manufacture of the door to allow this. As stable doors are often exterior doors, it’s usually more practical for them to open inwards.
Are stable doors more expensive?
As they have extra design features and fittings, stable doors can often cost a little more than regular doors. More importantly, they are often only made from wood or composite, which are among the more expensive door materials.
Can you have a stable door as a front door?
Yes, you could have a stable door as a front door. This would add traditional charm to a period or modern property, giving that cosy cottage look and the added functionality of the split sections.
