Compare uPVC Window Energy Ratings
Compare the energy ratings of our most popular uPVC window styles. The table below shows you their thermal performance to give you an idea of how much they could benefit your home.
uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is a type of plastic used to manufacture window and door frames. The term ‘unplasticised’ means that two plasticisers have been removed, which is what gives uPVC its strength and durability. It’s also weatherproof, low maintenance and can be fitted with double or triple-glazing.
Getting new windows is a big decision and it can be hard to know what to do for the best. Here are the things you should focus on when looking at new uPVC windows.
Energy Efficiency
The most obvious markers of energy efficiency are ratings and U-values. Good uPVC double glazing should be getting ratings of A and above. You could also look out for how wide the gap is between the panes - a bigger gap can mean a more efficient window.
Security
Multipoint locking, shoot-bolt locks and key locking handles are standard features you should expect to see on most casement windows. Internal beading is also something to look out for, which means that glass can't be removed from outside. Look for accreditations like Secured by Design, one of the highest security ratings around.
Guarantees
Choose a company that offers insurance-backed guarantees on parts and labour, and the glass unit. At Anglian, we offer a 10-year guarantee on our uPVC frames and 15 years on the glass unit.
Accreditations
Choose windows from a company that holds accreditations for quality from industry bodies and British Standards. This includes BBA Certificates, the British Fenestration Rating Council, the Glass and Glazing Federation and more. Also look for companies that carry FENSA and CERTASS certificates for building regulation compliance.
uPVC Windows for Different Properties
uPVC windows can suit almost any type of property, covering a wide range of styles, colours and designs. Whether your home is modern or traditional, they offer a durable, attractive, energy-efficient solution.
uPVC Windows for Victorian Homes
uPVC windows have a wide range of traditional style customisations to perfectly match your Victorian home. The classic Victorian windows were sash windows with a central bar. Replace or revive original features with uPVC sash windows, adding period charm with modern security and energy efficiency.
uPVC Windows for Modern Homes
uPVC is the most popular choice of window for modern homes, with great durability, security and energy efficiency. Flush casement windows have become the top choice for bringing style and modernity, while meshing with period homes. Tilt & Turn and stormproof casement windows are also great options for the modern home.
uPVC Windows for Cottages
uPVC cottage windows create the look of cottage or Georgian windows with glazing bars on the outside. Choose from uPVC casement, flush, or sash windows to create the perfect cottage window for your home. Cottage bars are a great way to match original designs of Edwardian and Victorian windows too.
How much uPVC windows cost largely depends on its size, style and colour. Higher quality uPVC will also increase cost, as can the companies you deal with. Specialist companies will often have higher costs, for example. Local companies can sometimes offer lower pricing, but national companies like us offer a price match promise. This means we will match a like for like quote for uPVC windows.
How long do uPVC windows last?
Depending on the quality and maintenance, uPVC windows can last for up to 20-25 years, with some windows lasting even longer. Our White Knight uPVC casement and tilt and turn windows are BBA accredited to last more than 35 years with proper care and cleaning.
Is there a difference between uPVC and PVC?
Although they sound similar, uPVC and PVC are different. uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is stronger than PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which is more flexible. PVC contains two plasticisers – BPA and phthalates – which are removed in the uPVC manufacturing process. This is why uPVC is called unplasticised. Removing the two plasticisers makes uPVC much stronger and far more suited to windows, doors, and building materials.
How secure are uPVC windows?
uPVC windows are very secure, offering strong frames, anti-burglar devices, and multi-point locking systems. Many of our uPVC windows feature the police-backed Secured by Design accreditation. Find out more about Anglian window security.
Are uPVC windows energy efficient?
Yes, uPVC windows offer excellent energy efficiency. However, it can also depend on the quality of the frame construction and the glazing they are paired with. That said, all windows have to meet at least the minimum of a B rating for energy efficiency. Our uPVC windows have an A or A+ energy rating as standard with double or triple glazing. This can go up to the highest A++ rating with triple glazed uPVC flush windows.
How soundproof are uPVC windows?
Double glazed uPVC windows offer a good level of soundproofing. Sound has to travel through a multichambered frame, as well as two panes of glass and a layer of inert gas. uPVC is a good material for sound insulation, with significant benefits over aluminium. In terms of frame material, timber is probably the best for sound insulation. Overall, uPVC is very good at decreasing outside noise vs older double glazing and single glazed windows.
