Security is a top priority for any homeowner when choosing new windows. Our windows use the latest technology and security features to help keep your windows as secure as possible. Choose between uPVC, timber or aluminium frames with a host of different styles and features.

Different parts of your home are naturally more vulnerable to attempted intrusions, such as ground floor windows and doors. This means it’s worthwhile prioritising security in more exposed parts of
your home when it comes to your windows.
Ground Floor Windows
Ground floor windows are the highest risk in any property, as these are the most easily accessible. Most home insurance providers require ground floor windows to be lockable, as well as meeting legal safety requirements for new windows. This usually includes PAS 24 certification, multi-point locking and internal beading.
Accessible Upper Floor Windows
Upper floor windows might seem less obvious as points of entry, but windows over flat roofs or near climbable objects might still be vulnerable to an opportunistic burglar. Lockable handles and opening restrictors can be helpful for overall home security while still allowing for ventilation on upstairs windows.
When you're looking for new windows, it's important to see the kinds of locks and features they all have, but is there anything else you should look for?
PAS 24: 2022 - The Security Standard for New Windows
PAS 24 is part of the UK’s building regulations, certifying that a window can resist forced entry from outside. Windows go through a series of tests, such as applying a strong force to various parts of the window or trying to pry it open with methods a burglar would use. This can affect home insurance, so be careful when buying second hand windows.
Secured by Design - Police-Preferred Window Security
Secured by Design is a police-backed initiative that certifies a product, usually a window or door has security built into its construction. It also shows a window has features like robust multi-point locking, secure vents and internal glazing beads to thwart potential intruders. Several of our windows and doors hold this accreditation.

Window security can play a part in your home insurance but your premiums will always depend on your provider. When it comes to windows, if you did suffer a break-in, your cover might be invalidated if your windows were easy to break into, so be sure to check your terms. Older windows without locks installed or single glazed windows can be easy prey for burglars.
If you don't have locks, you can install them, though a more long-term solution might be window replacement. Modern windows have key-locking handles as standard as well as a host of security features that make them much more difficult to break into. Insurers look out for other things like PAS24 and Secured by Design accredited products that prove your windows and doors resist forced entry. These can bring premiums down but it depends on the insurer.

Your questions on window security, answered by us.
How do I make my existing windows more secure?
Existing windows can be made more secure using things like security film over the glazing or opening restrictors that stop windows being fully opened from the outside. Sash windows can be fitted with sash stops or jammers so they can’t be opened wide enough for a person to climb through.
What is internal beading on a window?
Internal window beading makes a window more secure as the structure that holds the glazing in place is fitted on the inside of the frame. This means the glass can’t be forcibly removed from the outside, creating a much more secure barrier against intruders.
Do new windows need to meet building regulations for security?
Yes, new replacement windows in the UK need to meet the latest building regulations, covering things like energy efficiency and security. Security regulations include the PAS 24: 2022, part of Document Q of UK building regulations.
Do window restrictors stop burglars?
Window restrictors can be attached to a window frame to stop it from being fully opened, which can help to stop burglars. While it might not be as effective as fully replacing a window with a more secure design, it can help to increase security in the meantime.
